All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE)
To portray the status of higher education in the country, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) initiated an All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) in the year 2010-11 to build a robust database and to assess the correct picture of higher education in the country.
The main objectives of the survey is to:
- Identify and capture all the institutions of higher learning in the country
- Collect the data from all the higher education institutions on various aspects of higher education
The entire survey is voluntary, based on motivation of respondents; and without any statutory mandate in place for collecting information of this nature. The survey is unique in the sense that it is a participatory effort between State Governments, Regulatory Statutory Authorities and the Ministries of Govt of India. The survey compiles and manages statistics directly online from the respondent institutions. The main items of data collection under the survey are; basic details, programme details, teaching and non-teaching staff, student enrolment, examination results, infrastructure, scholarships and financial.
Survey for the year 2015-16 has been completed and data collection for 2016-17 is under progress.
